In my paintings and drawings I juxtapose line and color, structural and gestural marks, bold and neutral color, and varying surfaces to contain and protect painted areas I think look immediate and direct. My current work uses the structures of camping tents and geological formations to reference this act of protection, and also ideas of permanence and impermanence. As human beings, we endlessly attempt to freeze time, to seize the ephemeral, to concretize experience, to record our actions, feelings, sights, dreams in order to hold onto all we wish would remain. My work is about making what is momentary seem eternal.
